About Frameworks

Supporting the Future of Buildings—Together

Frameworks is an industry-guided initiative developed by Sustainable Waterloo Region in partnership with the Grand Valley Construction Association, designed to support professionals and organizations across the building sector in the transition toward efficient, smart, and healthy buildings.

We’re not here to set the standards—we’re here to help you meet them.

As policy, performance expectations, and market demands evolve, our goal is to ensure that everyone involved in the planning, design, construction, operation, and renovation of buildings has access to the tools, knowledge, and connections they need to succeed. Whether you’re leading the way on high-performance building practices or just starting to explore your options, Frameworks offers a place to learn, collaborate, and move forward—together.

Our Strategic Priorities

Frameworks is built around three strategic priorities that guide everything we do:

  • Knowledge & Capacity Building
Curating relevant, credible, and accessible resources and opportunities to support building professionals in navigating emerging codes, technologies, and strategies.
  • Connecting & Industry Collaboration
Building bridges across disciplines, sectors, and roles to foster shared learning, collective problem solving, and stronger outcomes.
  • Business Case Development & Market Transformation
Highlighting proven approaches and unlocking value by aligning performance goals with long-term financial, operational, and community benefits.

How We Deliver

Our work is organized into five Program Delivery Pathways, each offering targeted, flexible support based on where and how you engage with the building sector.

  • Website & Online Resources
A curated hub of tools, case studies, funding programs, and learning opportunities—sorted by audience and topic.
  • Events & Engagement Opportunities
In-person and virtual opportunities for learning, connection, and conversation—tours, panels, workshops, and more.
  • Training & Technical Workshops
Hands-on, modular programs developed with local partners to support upskilling in line with emerging practices and standards.
  • Policy Engagement Platform
A neutral space for industry, utilities, and municipalities to align around practical, actionable policy and planning insights.
  • Market Acceleration & Project-Specific Supports
Helping good ideas move forward—through design workshops, retrofit aggregation, strategic partnerships, and more.
